Spanish homes legalised

Published 07th Jul 2009

Around 40,000 illegally built properties in Spain will be legalised by the local authorities in Malaga, in conjunction with Marbella and Mijas Town Halls, which will avoid further embarrassment for the region, following the destruction of a number of illegal homes...

The properties in question are located along the coast as well as inland Axarquía, according to the president of the Diputación, Salvador Pendón.

However, La Opinión de Málaga reports that the new draft Urban Plan, drafted to review and legalise the homes, thus preventing them from being destroyed, does not include around 1,000 illegally built homes in the municipality.

This includes 400 residential units which the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz described as being "especially sensitive" due to the fact that they have been occupied for a number of years.

The other properties facing potential destruction are situated in Banana Beach, El Alcate and Rio Real.
