Which? to launch new mortgage advice service

Members of consumer group Which? will soon be able to benefit from the group's new mortgage advice service, it was announced today, following the approval of the Financial Services Authority.
The group said it had decided to launch the service following feedback from its members saying they were unsure where they could get impartial advice on home loans.
Which? Mortgage Advisers, as the service will be known, plans to set itself apart from the competition by looking at every mortgage available on the market, not just those that can be arranged through a mortgage broker.
The group's mortgage advisers will also be paid a salary, and will not receive any commission themselves from the loans they arrange.
They will only be measured against the quality of the advice they give and customer satisfaction, and will not have sales targets to meet.
The free service, which will be available to people who subscribe to Which? magazines and their friends and family, will be launched later this month.
Chris Gardner, commercial director of Which?, said: ‘Buying a house is the largest financial commitment that most people will make and choosing the right mortgage is an important and complicated decision.
‘Our members tell us that they find it difficult to know where they can turn to get trustworthy advice from someone who will give them the full picture. We believe that this service will give our members access to the advice they want.’ .
