Housing market 'to see more green sales'

The green home segment of the British housing market will grow significantly over the next several years due to government legislation for domestic carbon reductions, it has been claimed.
According to advisory firm GreenMoves, sellers are currently forced to put green homes on to the market for ten per cent more than traditional houses to cover the increased construction costs.
However, a report from the Energy Savings Trust published in August revealed that 58 per cent of home-buyers are willing to pay more for green - with an average premium of £3,350 attached to energy efficiency.
Julian Brooks, managing director of GreenMoves, said: "The UK market will see an increase in green homes for sale. This is being driven by government legislation for carbon reduction from the domestic sector, which in turn is a direct response to EU directives."
Research by the Sponge Sustainability Network published last year indicated that 92 per cent of people would like to see sustainability features offered as options on new homes.
