Homebuyers remain active over Christmas

Published 22nd Nov 2007

British homebuyers are just as active in the Christmas period as they are at other times of year.

British homebuyers are just as active in the Christmas period as they are at other times of year.

That is what is suggested in a new piece of research by Alliance & Leicester, which reveals that 22 per cent of home movers relocate in the 12 weeks leading to December 25th.

It is traditionally thought that people choose not to move around Christmas as the process proves to be too expensive at what is already a costly time of year.

However, Alliance & Leicester's research shows that 53 per cent of Christmas buyers said the move did not impact on their other festive spending.

"With so many people moving into their new homes during the run-up to Christmas it can feel like a rush to get the family settled and the new furniture ordered before December 25th," commented Alliance & Leicester's director of mortgages Stephen Leonard.

"But it is very encouraging to see many people are planning ahead to budget for their moving costs and saving in advance to ensure it doesn't have a big impact on their Christmas.

"Clearly planning ahead, budgeting and saving are the key to a less stressful move," he added.
